Undergraduate Scholarship Program

Undergraduate Scholarships are awarded to enrolled Wyandotte Tribal members who are attending or will be attending an accredited college or university. The full-time student scholarships are in the amount of $3,000 per semester, renewable for a total of eight semesters; providing the student continues to meet the guidelines set up by the Education Committee.

The Program

The Wyandotte Nation's Higher Education Office awards scholarships to selected Wyandotte Nation Tribal Members pursuing degrees at a college or university. Undergraduate Scholarships are awarded to enrolled Wyandotte Tribal members who are attending or will be attending an accredited college or university. The full-time student scholarships are in the amount of $5,000 per semester, renewable for a total of eight semesters; providing the student continues to meet the guidelines set up by the Education Committee. The awards will be distributed in equal amounts based on the semester or trimester schedules. To apply for these funds, new stu­dents must submit a complete set of application documents, hand-delivered, to the Higher Education Office or postmarked on or be­fore May 1. No late or emergency applications will be accepted. NO EXCEPTIONS!

Students seeking higher education scholarship funding must submit all the documents listed on the checklist at the same time. All documents must be hand-delivered to the Higher Education Office, sent by mail postmarked on or before May 1, or uploaded via the online form. Incomplete or late applications will not be accepted.

Application Checklist (New applicants only)

• Copy of your Student Aid Report (all pages) from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application (it may take 3-4 weeks to obtain results, so plan ahead).

• Copy of your Wyandotte Nation Tribal Membership card.

• Copy of your Certificate Degree of Indian Blood card (CDIB).

• Copy of your Social Security card.

• Official high school transcript (7 semesters) or GED scores.

• Official ACT/SAT or College Placement Scores (ACT/SAT may be listed on the high school transcript.

• Copy of acceptance letter.

• Official undergraduate transcripts (if applicable).

• A completed and signed application, see the reverse.

• Letter of reference section - 3 letters of reference. One must be from a school official or educator. No letters from relatives.

• One page essay entitled "Tell me about Yourself'.

• Wallet size photo of the applicant.

Continuing Students

Students funded for previous Fall and Spring semesters by Wyandotte Nation Scholarship Pro­grams. Please send an official undergraduate transcript for the se­mester completed and schedule for the next semester as promptly as possible to be considered for continuing semes­ters. Continuing students have first preference as long as all documentation is received in a timely manner and all eligibility requirements are fulfilled.

Dates to Remember (All dates are for the current calendar year)

Application deadline: May 1

Change of School (Fall): August 1

Deadline for Fall submission: October 1

Change of School (Spring): January 4

Deadline for Spring submission: February 15

Notification of Scholarship Selection

Students will be notified in writing by August 1 of scholarship selection or denial. Any and all verbal information provided by the Education Office is not official. There are no assurances that a student has been selected to receive the scholarship until the student receives official written notifi­cation from the Higher Education Office.

Change of School

Students who enroll at another school after submitting their scholarship application should notify the Higher Education Office in writing as soon as possible. Funds will not be sent to a new school until written notifica­tion is submitted to the Higher Education Office.

Other Information:

1. Students receiving a license or training certificate are not eligible for the Wyandotte Nation Scholarship Program.

2. If total undergraduate hours earned is greater than 140, funding is not available.

3. Students will be placed on probation for failure to complete 12 hours or more with a minimum of 2.0 GPA.

4. Students will be allowed one probationary semester during the program’s duration.

Scholarship Programs & Selection Process

First Preference:

Continuing students in the Wyandotte Nation Scholarship Program.

Second Preference:

Classification of new applicants (Senior, Junior, Sophomore, Freshman)

Third Preference:

Academic performance and financial need of the applicant. College GPA will be used for applicants who have attended college. High School GPA multiplied by the ACT/SAT or College Placement Test score will be used for applicants graduating from high school.

Financial need will be determined by the expected family contribution from the FAFSA Student Aid Report.

Students who have completed an undergraduate degree may not apply for additional undergraduate coursework.

Undergraduate scholarships are lim­ited to eight (8) semesters.

Late applications will not be accepted and applications postmarked after May 1 will be returned to the student without consideration for scholarship funding.

Students applying to the program for the first time will be given priority over students applying to reenter the program.

Students not selected for scholarship funding will be placed on a waiting list. Students on the waiting list may be selected for scholarships as additional funding becomes available.

This application does not create a contract, commitment, or entitlement from the Wyandotte Nation. Scholarships awarded are subject to the availability of funds.
