The Wyandotte Nation Tribal Police Department (WNTPD) held its annual Shop With a Cop recently. Unlike previous years, due to concerns over COVID, the officers delivered gifts and food baskets to 27 families and 78 kids. Normally, the officers and volunteers would take the kids shopping and treat them to lunch and a wrapping party afterwards.
Local families experiencing economic hardships can’t always provide their children with their own celebration of Christmas. That is where the ‘Shop With a Cop’ program comes in, joining underprivileged children with WNTPD officers and other area tribal officers, providing Christmas presents for kids and their families. Local donations and volunteers make this program possible.
Each child received $100 for their gifts, a good bag worth about $35, and a candy train. In addition, each family received a food basket with about $100 worth of goodies in it, including canned foods, fruit, bread, milk, chicken, ham and a lot more!
Officers would like to thank all the volunteers for their help as well as all who donated to this great cause.
