Applications became available November 3.

The Wyandotte Nation has authorized the release of emergency funds to support citizens who may lose access to food assistance following the federal government’s suspension of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

On October 22, the U.S. Department of Agriculture informed the Tribe that SNAP operations will be paused on or about November I, 2025, due to staffing and resource sho1tages caused by the ongoing

federal shutdown. This represents the first interruption of the program in its histo1y.

Although the federal government may be shut down, the Wyandotte Nation remains strong and committed to serving our people. We believe that no Wyandotte family should ever go hung1y because of political gridlock in Washington.

The Nation is authorizing the release of Tribal funds to provide immediate relief for citizens currently receiving SNAP benefits. We are also calling upon Oklahoma’s congressional delegation to act swiftly to end the shutdown and restore normal SNAP operations.

This is why we set aside emergency reserves, so we can respond quickly when our people are affected by crises like this. These reserve funds are contingent on the existence of a federal shutdown at the time of payment. If the federal government quickly reopens, we will suspend these actions and save our strategic reserve funds for the future. We are calling on our federal leaders to put politics aside, find common ground, and restore this essential program that so many families depend on

Emergency assistance will remain available while Tribal funds permit or until the federal government resumes normal SNAP operations.
